British Citizenship for Children - Registration

A child under 18 years of age can qualify for Registering as a British Citizen under many different categories the policy guidance is available at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/children-nationality-policy-guidance.

 

Also, if one or more siblings of the applicant qualifies for registration, then it is very highly likely that the Home Office will exercise discretion in favour of the applicant who does not yet qualify for registration as a British citizen.

List of documents/information required in support of Registration (British Citizenship) application filed in the UK

Documents Required:

  1. If available - Applicant’s Current Passport or EU ID Card or UK Driving Licence or a 

  2. Applicant’s Birth Certificate

  3. Applicant’s two photographs - pasted on the referee pages (download referee pages under “Download Documents” page)

  4. If available - Applicant’s Indefinite Leave to Remain Biometric Residence Permit or Registration Certificate or Permanent Residence document or Copy of letter confirming Settled status

  5. Letters or reports to show registration or attendance at a doctor/dentist/child care provider or other health care provider

  6. Child health record book or records of childhood immunisations

  7. School letters confirming start (and if applicable) finish dates

  8. Any other documents showing that the applicant lived in the UK for the period claimed

  9. If available - Evidence of Parents British Passport or Indefinite leave to remain Biometric Residence Permit or Permanent Residence Document or  Copy of letter confirming Settled status

  10. Parents Marriage Certificate, if applicable

  11. If the applicant has one parent or legal guardian they must explain why the other parent is unable to consent e.g. whereabouts unknown, no contact since MM/YYYY.

  12. Name and Address of School or Employer(if working)

*Enter whole days’ absences only. Do not include the day you left the UK or returned to the UK. For example, if you were absent from the UK between 1 January 2014 and 31 January 2014, enter 29 days (2 January to 30 January inclusive).
